THE SPARKY REPORT #46

Blog1sm
We're back! After being grounded last week by a sneaky virus that bypassed my antivirus program, I'm just now getting back into action. In the meantime, while I was virtually computerless, I had plenty of time to take pictures. Sparky being such a handy subject, most of my pictures were of her. And because no grass grows under Sparky's restless feet, she presented me with plenty of opportunities for photographing her.

For instance, there's the time she stole the grapes I was snacking on at my desk.

Grapes1sm

Oh my, what have we here?

Grapes2sm

What a nice shape! Let me just pluck one of these things and see if it'll make a good toy.

Grapes3sm

I think I'll sneak this grape past Mom and play with it under the desk.

Grapes4sm

All tuckered out playing with the grapes. Think I'll just take a quick catnap under Mom's desk

So . . . did Sparky like the taste of those grapes? Luckily, she didn't, though they were fun to bat around. I say "luckily," because you should not feed grapes or raisins to your cat or dog. They're toxic to pets and can cause kidney failure. I needn't worry about Sparky, though. When I asked her if she liked the taste of the grapes, this was her reaction:

Grapes5sm

Grapes? Yuck!

  1. Unfortunately, my dogs love grapes. They pester me constantly when I’m eating them. Sparky looks like she really had a wonderful time with hers though! 🙂
And you do know, you can do almost anything online with the Nook that you can with your laptop…

  6. Lovely to see you and Sparky back again! Yes, chocolate raisins are about as toxic as you can get for a cat, since chocolate is also poisonous for them.

  16. Glad to see you back Sherrie, I didn’t realise how much i looked forward to your Sparky reports until we didn’t have one ! That cheekily charming Puss continues to delight with her antics. I’m not a pet owner, but I love having a virtual stake in that pretty girls life. Have a great week you two (& the long suffering dogs), & read you next Monday.

  21. Theo, I used to feed my dogs grapes, too, until I read a report by a veterinarian about the mystery of why so many of her dog patients were dying of kidney failure. She sleuthed around and found out the common denominator was that all the dogs were fed raisins by their owners. That was many years ago. Since then, grapes and raisins are now listed as toxic to dogs and cats. Who knew!
And oh yes, my local electronics gadgets guru (and you!) did tell me all the wonderful things a Nook can do! Oops, and Sparky just poked me and told me to thank you (again!) *g* for your unbelievable generosity in sending us that Nook! By the way, Theo, Sparky still loves that Priority box you mailed it in! It’s getting pretty beat up by now, but Sparky won’t let me put it in the cardboard recycling bin. Meanwhile, the dogs play with her catnip mice more than she does!

  26. HJ, you are so right. Chocolate is definitely toxic for pets. In fact, if you Google “pets and toxic foods” you’ll get several hits showing just how many foods are toxic to cats and dogs. Owners need to be aware of the things that aren’t good for our pets!

  31. Hi, Jenny. Indeed, it’s good to be back! As I mentioned in my post, I had plenty of opportunities for photos during that time.
In fact, just now I took a picture of Sparky stealing the cap to a bottle of water. She cannot resist small plastic things that are fun to bat around. I already took the bottle cap away from her once, and darned if she didn’t sneak back onto my desk and steal it a second time. I got a picture of her with it in her mouth, just after she’d picked it up. I would have gotten a second picture of her jumping to the floor with the bottle cap still in her mouth, but she was too fast for me. All I got was the end of her butt disappearing over the edge of the desk!

  36. Cate, I’m so glad you look forward to the Sparky reports! (So is Sparky!) Your description of her as a “cheekily charming puss” is spot on. Sparky is the epitome of cheeky. When I shake a finger at her as a reprimand for something she did that was naughty, she has the audacity to slap my offending finger. She always has to have the last word!
And my big ferocious Doberman (not!) has taken a liking to having her ears cleaned by Sparky. (Yuck!) I’ve caught Kyanne (Dobe) several times standing over Sparky, head lowered so that Sparky can nuzzle and lick her ears. Of course that’s where the cheeky bit comes in, because every once in awhile Sparky interrupts the ear cleaning by nipping or slapping Kyanne just to remind her who’s boss. *g*

  41. Sherrie, you’re welcome and please, stop thanking me! I was happy to provide. 🙂 This week has been exceptionally busy as we bought a house! We’ll only end up homeless for about two weeks and we can work with that. It was just easier mentioning here… I’m so glad Sparky still loves her box! Two toys with one stone…one for you, one for her. I’ll have to send something for the dogs next time. Another catnip mouse perhaps? 😉

    LOL, okay, no more
thank yous! But really, you came through like a champ when you saw the need,
and my mommy always told me to say “please” and “thank you.” *g

    Congratulations on
your house! That’s one huge worry off your mind. I’ll bet you and the critters
will be grateful to have some breathing room once you are moved in. Oh, and
yes, Sparky definitely loves your mailing box! I don’t know what it is, but
when I tried to put it in the recycling, she actually dragged it out of the
recycling bin! So I’ll let her have it until the thing falls apart. (Which it
will do soon, as it has a million bite marks!)
