THE SPARKY REPORT #39

Blog9sm

Still a kitten, but always willing to snuggle up to a nice warm doggy!

Last Sunday I posted several pictures showing the odd/weird/hilarious sleeping positions Sparky gets into. This week, I'll be showing you where Sparky sleeps. Not one of the pictures will show Sparky napping in her actual bed because she prefers other alternatives!

Blog1

Busted! Caught the Sparkster napping in a flimsy plastic grocery store bag. I was picking it up off the floor when Sparky popped up and gave me a cross-eyed look.

I usually use my own canvas and other bags when I go grocery shopping, and Sparky likes them even better than the flimsy store bags.

Blog2

No bag is safe when Sparky's around. This is one of my heavy duty bags I use for grocery shopping.

And likewise, baskets and boxes really turn Sparky on. She has a special fondness for laundry baskets.

Blog3

One of my laundry baskets–the perfect size for a catnap!

Open boxes are another favorite with Sparky. I was packing away some linens when I had to leave the room. When I returned, Sparky was fast asleep on top of a nice cushion of towels.

Blog4

Oh, what a lovely soft bed!

And of course, there's nothing better than snuggling up against a couple of warm bodies.

Blog5

Hey, guys, quit hogging the bed!

There's also another Sparky favorite:  my printer!

Blog8

There's a nice spot for the body, and it even has a built-in "pillow"

And finally, keeping up the fine tradition of cats everywhere that love to bed down in the bathroom sink, here's Sparky making use of my own bathroom sink.

Blog6

Peek-a-boo, I see you!

  6. HJ, some days it seems I don’t get anything done, what with my following Sparky around with a camera glued to my face. And of course it’s much more fun playing with Sparky and a laser pointer than it is doing housework!
With the weather being so hot, the dogs and Sparky and I are basically lying around like slugs. It’s 1:00 a.m. and I have my doors and windows open and it’s 75° F. so it’s cooled down a bit and we’ll all sleep better tonight. This hot weather has slowed Sparky down a bit, and today we fought over the fan. Sparky won and she got to hog the fan while I sweltered in the kitchen. The things we do for our little beasties!

  11. I, too, am up early, very early. My little dog, Flower, who is aging, doesn’t do well with the heat. So she gets pretty restless and wakes me up. I have air conditioning but turn it off at night except on really hot nights which are rare. Electricity here is very expensive, so it goes off. After she wakes me up I can usually go back to sleep, but sometimes I seem to be “wired” and can’t do that. So here I am and she’s happily sleeping away again! Cats are very independent folks and everything is worth exploring and trying out. I like Sparky, she reminds me of me. There’s not much that’s not worth trying. Some things don’t work so well, like the time my cat climbed into an empty paper sack on top of the dryer and it tumbled off the dryer, cat and all. She was embarrassed, but not hurt, and didn’t appreciate my laughter.

  21. AJ, I’m a night owl, so I go to bed in the wee hours of the morning, meaning I also rise late. I am trying to retrain myself to get the Sparky Reports done earlier, though. Thanks for your patience–I really love “talking” to Sparky’s fans!
Your little Flower is the reason my critters aren’t allowed to roam the house after bedtime! My two dogs have their crates, which they love, and when it’s bedtime, they willingly trot to their respective crates and settle in for the night.
Sparky has her own bedroom. Really. *g* It has all the things she needs for her comfort, plus a window to look out of. Once all the critters are abed, I can go to my own bedroom, secure in the knowledge that no little beastie will awaken me by getting into mischief during the night. Alas, I cannot have them sleep with me–my allergies won’t allow it.
Your cat falling off the dryer while inside a paper sack is just the sort of thing that happens to Sparky! You know what they say: Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. If it’s worth inspecting, it’s worth the lumps one might get, for the benefit of satisfying curiosity!

  26. LOL, Donna. I don’t know if the combination is “perfect,” but it is certainly beneficial to both parties! It’s been really hot here, so Sparky’s activities have been reduced–too hot to get into trouble. However, she and my two dogs have a new activity since I brought out the big fan to combat the heat: the minute I place the fan on the floor, three bodies park in front of it–Sparky, Shona (Boxer), and Kyanne (Doberman). I’m lucky if a little of the breeze reaches me!
