THE SPARKY REPORT #21

Here's Sparky in the wastepaper basket under my desk. Isn't she a cutie? She looks so dignified and mature.

Not!

HOOLIGAN IN TRAINING!

Now that the holidays are over, Sparky Tabasco is all rested up and ready for trouble, as the below picture shows. The little monster loves to play in the bathroom, and has recently discovered the toilet paper roll. Not content to pull the towels off the towel rack, or curl up for a nap in the sink, or play with her toys in the bathtub, or steal my hairbrush, or slap the water in the toilet, she has now added the unraveling of TP rolls to her many mischievous activities.

GOT SOMETHING UP YOUR SLEEVE?

After destroying the TP, Sparky's next adventure got her into a tight spot. She had climbed into the sleeve of my quilted flannel shirt and then got stuck when she tried to exit through the sleeve. The shirt was hanging on a doorknob, and how she managed to get up and into the sleeve in the first place is beyond me. When I grabbed the shirt, it felt heavy, so I gave it a shake, thinking something was stuck to it. Out popped Sparky's head from the shirt cuff.

Before I could extricate her, she managed to get herself well and truly stuck. She was so thoroughly wedged in the sleeve that she couldn't even wiggle. I had to unbutton the cuff and pull her out. She was a little disheveled, but none the worse for wear! I wonder what she'll get into next?

  1. Oh, Sherrie! You need to get that first photo framed. I had no idea the background was plastic until you said something.
So far, Garth the Terrorist hasn’t found any joy in unraveling the toilet paper roll. I’m sure my day is coming. Yesterday, he helped me clean the kitchen cupboards by sitting in them as I tried to wash the shelves. Not the bottom cupboards. The upper ones. Then I was trying to take some pictures of a set of dinnerware for eBay and he needed to be in every picture. *sigh*
But we do love them, don’t we?

  6. She is such a darling! And the photos of her stuck in the shirtsleeve are priceless! I have to store my toilet paper in a plastic box next to the toilet as any paper product out in the open is fair game for Miss Rebecca Marie. She throws her own tickertape parade! And my long-haired very shy chihuahua, Vito, is her willing accomplice. He has a paper fetish that rivals hers and together they are an eight-pawed shredding crew!

  11. Theo, Sparky is so photogenic, and so used to me following her around with the camera, that I now have a whole slew of photos that are good enough to frame.
Funny you should mention your Garth getting into the cupboards you’re cleaning. Sparky does the exact same thing. I’ve been cleaning out cupboards in the kitchen this week, and any open cupboard door is an invitation for Sparky to climb inside and inspect the pots and pans.

  16. Louisa, Sparky was thoroughly wedged in that sleeve. And trying to extricate her was interesting, as she kept trying to bite me every time I tried to undo the button on the sleeve cuff to release her. She didn’t understand that I had to momentarily tighten the cuff to free her. The good news is that she doesn’t panic in situations like that.
I should probably do as you do with your TP. At least until Sparky grows out of it. If she ever does!

  26. Sparky sitting amongst the entire roll of TP and looking up at the camera with *such* an innocent look made me spew tea. But she made my day! She really has grown – her face reminds me so much of my own Pierce. And bad news is… even at five, he’s still a pistol. I discovered unrolled tp just last week – for the first time ever!

  31. Sparky is looking very grownup and world-wise. Adorable as always and the half-circle of tan on the neck adds a touch of whimsy.
My Tiger Lily decided as a kitten the plastic around the TP is fair game. She squeezes herself into the missing role space and shreds away at the thick plastic. No damage done to either bag or rolls. Needless to say less of herself fits into the bag as she reached the one year mark. And she’s recently had a growth spurt so those claws are now registered weapons. I picked up the current plastic bag and the four remaining rolls had exploded. Yep, she’d shredded them all in the bag! Nary a scrap on the floor. What a considerate destroyer…and to think I created this plastic shredding monster.
I now hide he huge bag in the cupboard under the sink. And I cover my ears when I hear the repeated loud thump of the thick Koa-wood door during the night. It’s still too heavy for her to open all the way…all I’ve done is created a new level of the playing challenge.

  36. MaeLou, I love that half-circle of ginger- colored hair around Sparky’s neck. It’s so unique. I’ve never seen that on another cat. I think of it as her necklace.
And oh my, your Tiger Lily is even more clever than Sparky! I laughed out loud about your discovering the remaining TP rolls shredded while still in the plastic wrap. Too funny! Tiger Lily has obviously perfected the meaning of “stealth.” Let’s hope she doesn’t develop the ability to get that thick cupboard door open in order to get at the rest of the TP! But if she does manage to do it, send me a picture!
