Live Your Dream

First Pat Rice here, wishing a happy new year to one and all! Here's hoping 2014 is a year to create dreams and achieve them.

I started the new year by achieving the childhood dream of seeing the Rose Parade. My early years were spent in New York. I never dreamed of attending the Macy's Parade. I could wear heavy coats and see snow and play with balloons right at home. My dream was the sunshine and flowers and warmth of the Rose Parade.

The Rose Parade was the only one I ever bothered watching on TV throughout my life, even though the announcers made me crazy and I'd shout at them to get out of my way so I could see the real parade.

So actually being there, seeing every single float, hearing all the wonderful bands, made my dream come true. What dreams are you working on this year?  Hawaii dancers

  1. I’d love to see the Rose Parade. I record it so I can look at the floats and fast forward when the chatter gets too much.
Dreams are food for my soul. Dreams to come true for me have to be broken down into small pieces until I can work on the one small piece, get it done, and then on the next. I’ve set aside time this Monday through Friday to start working on it again.
I hope everyone has a dream for the New Year as well as the time and patience to pursue it.

  6. My dream is to get published and leave my job at Walmart. That is the big picture. The little steps are :
Polish the books I have completed and submit the hell out of them.
Decide at what point I decide I am not going to sell to a publisher and self-publish.
Take the steps to self-publish, knowing I must have at least three books in a series ready to go in order to do so.
I have been collecting information on self-publishing and taken some classes on it as well.
Improve my craft as a writer through books, classes, and conferences.
Make damned certain if I decide to self-publish that what I publish is the absolute best it can be.
Try not to lose my mind in the process!

  11. I honestly don’t have lofty goals other than surviving the year and helping guide my daughter into choosing the right college/university for her.
Another goal is to be able to pay for both kids college/university for yet another year… including ‘encouraging’ my daughter to apply for more scholarships especially if she decides to go out of state. We do not want our kids burdened with extravagant student loans after their first degrees.

  16. Getting the kids through higher education is certainly a strong fantasy in this day and age! We always told ours that we’d pay for in-state but if they wanted out-of-state, they had to get scholarships. We still ended up with loans, but nothing extravagant. I wish you well with your dream!
