THE SPARKY REPORT #48

ExerciseA

Because of Sparky’s partial blindness she has been confined to the house. No more stalking the back 40 looking for varmints. All that enforced inactivity has caused a little settling of the meat and potatoes in her rump area. Sparky isn’t exactly fat, but let’s just say that when she sits, her belly covers her feet, sort of like lava overflowing the volcano’s rim. So after thinking hard about her once svelte figure (see above photo) Sparky has embarked on an exercise regimen.

Exercise1

Like any sensible exerciser, Sparky starts out with some stretching exercises.

Exercise2

Stretttccchhh those arms!

Exercise3

Limber up that tight neck.

Exercise4

Flex those toes!

Exercise5

Practice manual dexterity.

Exercise6

Now, for some lip dexterity.

Exercise7

And finally, a workout with the rubber exercise band.

Exercise8

Does my butt still look big? What? I need to exercise more??? Groan . . .

  1. Awww, her butt doesn’t look big! Comfortable maybe… You should get her a battery mouse. They’re kind of like a roomba, but the size of a mouse and they’ll keep her interested for awhile. It would be good for her. But you know I think being an indoor cat is best anyway. Much less likely to contract anything.

  6. Sherri, your postings of your cat are adorable and it’s clear that you’re in love. However, you’re leaning too much on this subject matter. I can’t remember your posting anything else for about a YEAR! Are you really being fair to the other people who post on this site, writers who talk about varied subject matter, often history, etc.? I don’t think so. If this site became just about your pets, I bet that your readership would decline very quickly.
    Enough, already.

  16. Lynda, for me Sparky is my virtual kitty. My Julia died on 4 July last year, the same day Sherri found Sparky. For me, this once a week visit is a smile and a kitty to tide me over until the year comes when I can have go to a shelter.
And wenches, I do love the three days a week history and romance and extras. I wish it could be more than three times a week, but those three posts always give me something to think about when I’m standing in a long latte line.

  21. Sherrie, I think there are many of us who really enjoy the Sparky posts. The other wenches post on different topics, and as I recall no one posted on Sundays until you started the Sparky posts. No one has to read them if they don’t enjoy them.
I loved this one with the clever photos of her!

  31. Theo, I didn’t know there were battery-operated toy mice! Sparky would love that, but I fear the dogs would destroy it before Sparky even had a chance to play with it!
Yes, being an indoor cat is safest. That’s what Sparky will be from now on, except for playtime excursions to her catio, once it’s finished!

  36. Hi, Lynda X. Your comments are duly noted. I appreciate the time you took to express your opinion.
The Wenches don’t do posts on Saturdays or Sundays, except for announcements, so we thought it would be fun to give the readers a bit of amusing fluff on Sundays. When the Wenches adopted Sparky as their “godkitten” last year and suggested I do Sparky updates, I was happy to comply. The updates aren’t meant to compete with any of the Wench posts. As I said, they’re just a bit of amusing fluff, but I fully understand that not all people enjoy fluff with their Sunday coffee. *g*

The best thing to come out of the Sunday posts is that I have become acquainted with some truly wonderful people, many of whom have become my dear e-mail friends. (You know who you are!)

My cats never so anything interesting when I am watching and , even if they did, I don’t have a camera on my phone or anywhere.

  86. I’m late coming into this, but I enjoy the Sparky updates also. I was surprised at how upset I was when I found out Sparky was blind. I was surprised that a cat I don’t even know could ring that kind of a reaction from me. However, Sparky isn’t the only reason I visit. I love to read the articles by alllll the authors. For me Word Wenches is more than enjoying the great literary articles that abound, I have also enjoyed the little personal glimpses we have had into the lives of the people who contribute to this blog. There have been many memorable moments, from the happy times of Mary Jo Putney’s wedding to the sad farewell of Edith Layton. I think that this site is a great mix.

    (Note: apologies if I
reply twice to anyone, or worse yet, if I fail to reply! I’m having
connection problems and cannot get into any Web site, including the Word
Wenches site. Thankfully, I can “reply” via Typepad’s remote
function without getting into the site proper.)

    Judy, you’re
right—there were no regular Sunday posts except for announcements (like
when we had upcoming guests). Also, for anyone who didn’t already know, I’m
not an official Wench, either—I’m just the behind-the-scenes admin
who takes care of the site, contacts winners, maintains the Blog Suggestion
List, etc. And hopefully I’m not letting the cat out of the bag (a pun!)
by saying that the Wenches have been planning some changes in the future (change
is good, right?) so watch for cool stuff once plans are finalized!

    Now, back to your
comment about enjoying Sparky posts, Judy. As I said earlier, they’re
just a bit of amusing fluff for anyone who cares to drop in on Sundays; a
little bonus for the regular visitors who enjoy the weekly posts by the
Wenches. At some point I’m probably going to move the Sparky Reports to a
new venue, as they have taken on a life of their own! *g*

    Nancy, I
heard the same thing about the popularity of cats on YouTube,
ICanHazCheezburger, and other venues that feature pets. I find it sort of
baffling. Who knew! Even more amazing, many of the more popular cats that have
garnered a large following (Maru, Grumpy Cat, Simon’s Cat, etc.) now have
book deals as a result! Grumpy Cat is appearing in commercials and other
promotions. Maru is my favorite. His owner takes excellent videos of that
    adorable cat.

    I was listening to
NPR awhile back, and they even had a feature about the popularity of cats on
    YouTube!

    Lynda, I agree. No
flaming here.  πŸ™‚  As you say, everyone here is nice, and if
opinions differ, they’re usually expressed diplomatically and
respectfully (and often engender lively discussions!).

    Kay, how eloquent you
are! You expressed yourself so well, and I totally agree that this site is a
great mix. I have learned so much from the Wench posts, and I often wonder how
they can keep putting out such quality posts while writing novels on deadline!

    I was touched by your
comment about how upset you were when Sparky was blind. Thank you for that
sentiment. You were not alone. And I’m sure you rejoiced with all of us
when Sparky got back some partial vision. Let’s hope she continues to
improve! In the meantime, the outpouring of support from everyone just confirms
Lynda X’s opinion that everyone here is nice! I’d even go so far as
    to say *wonderful*!   πŸ™‚
